Perception Of The Innocent

Years ago I had the great pleasure of riding in the truck with my dad. I remember truckers being friendly. Trucking was a great community of people. When I became a driver I didn't see that anymore. I hear the veterans talk about how much has changed. No one looks out for anyone blah blah. I believed the hype until today.

You see I continued the tradition and brought my son along with me in my truck. He loved it. I had to basically pry him from the truck at the end of his trip. We went to Macon, GA to Foxboro, MA to Maine, to the caves in KCMO then to DFW to home.

I saw something I thought was long gone. The community was back. A lot of drivers waved to him. They talked to him. They were friendly to him. In his eyes all truckers are friends and this is a fun job. Perception is reality.

I am so happy that your son is able to see the good things, but surely, you know as well as I do, that those days ARE long gone.....and only a small percentage of truckers seem to hold on to the idea of courtesy and community. After only 12 years, even I have noticed a vast decline in brotherhood of truckers. It makes me sad!! But HOORAY!! I am so happy that everyone was great to the boy!!

Sadly you are right.

Community and brotherhood are dying off in pretty much everything these days. When I was in the Navy there was still a decent confederation of people who took the old-school approach and looked out for each other but a lot of guys were solely motivated by their ambitions and that was it.

I think the overall spirit is still there in most places and someday it will play out to where those who do still embody that spirit will overcome while those who don't will be cast aside.

Burch you are correct. That's one of the things I have learned out here is that Community spirit is dying in everything.
